Prime Minister to Review Bullet Train Progress in Gujarat on 15 November

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Gujarat on 15 November to review the Mumbai–Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor, India’s first bullet train project. At around 10 AM, he will inspect the under-construction Bullet Train Station in Surat, one of the most important nodes on the route.

The 508-km corridor stretches across Gujarat, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, and Maharashtra. It will link major cities including Sabarmati, Ahmedabad, Anand, Vadodara, Bharuch, Surat, Bilimora, Vapi, Boisar, Virar, Thane and Mumbai. The project represents a major shift in India’s transportation landscape, introducing world-class high-speed rail technology.

Around 85% of the route — nearly 465 km — is being built on elevated viaducts to reduce land disturbance and enhance safety. Engineers have already completed 326 km of viaduct construction and 17 of the 25 river bridges along the stretch.

When operational, the Bullet Train will cut travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad to about two hours. The rapid link is expected to make business travel smoother, attract tourism, and boost economic activity across the entire region.

One of the most advanced segments is the 47-km Surat–Bilimora section, where civil works and track-bed preparation are fully completed. The Surat station stands out for its design inspired by the city’s famous diamond industry, blending elegance with practicality. The station will feature large waiting halls, comfortable amenities, retail spaces and smooth transfers to Surat Metro, city buses and Indian Railways.
